Ultrahuman has recently unveiled an innovative feature called Heart Scan for users of its Ring Air and Ring Pro smart wearables. This feature enhances the existing atrial fibrillation (AFib) detection capabilities that were introduced in previous updates.
What is Heart Scan?
The Heart Scan feature, powered by FibriCheck, enables eligible users to perform an on-demand heart rhythm check at their convenience. This is a significant upgrade from the AFib screening that operates automatically during the night.
How Does It Work?
To initiate a Heart Scan, users simply need to access the Ultrahuman app. Each scan lasts for 60 seconds, during which users must remain still for accurate readings. The Ultrahuman Ring captures the necessary signals and employs FibriCheck's advanced algorithm for analysis.
Understanding the Results
Once the scan is complete, results are displayed in the Ultrahuman app. Users receive a detailed FibriCheck PDF report that includes various data points, such as:
- Pulse recording from the scan
- Tachogram illustrating heart rate patterns
- Lorenz plot showing intervals between beats
The report may categorize results as Regular, Possibly irregular, Possible atrial fibrillation, Signal quality too low, or Inconclusive. It is important to note that while the Heart Scan provides valuable insights, it does not detect heart attacks or ischemic conditions, and a normal result does not eliminate the possibility of heart rhythm issues.
Requirements and Availability
To use the Heart Scan feature, users need to ensure they have the latest version of the Ultrahuman app—version 4.3.0 for iOS or version 3.2.0.0 for Android. The feature is currently available in select markets, including the UK, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific. Eligible users can access free scans through the Ultrahuman dashboard.
Additional Features and Pricing
In addition to the Heart Scan, users can opt for nighttime AFib screening through the AFib PowerPlug. This service is available for a subscription fee of £4.90 per month or £49 per year in the UK, and €5.90 per month or €49 per year in the Eurozone.
For those interested in the Ultrahuman Ring Pro or Ring Air, these devices can be purchased directly from the official Ultrahuman online store at ultrahuman.com.
