New iOS 27 Feature Allows Dual iPhone Usage with One Number

Apple is preparing to unveil iOS 27 soon after its much-anticipated iPhone event. Among the exciting updates, one standout feature allows users to utilize a single phone number on two separate iPhones.

Introducing iPhone Handoff

This innovative capability, dubbed iPhone Handoff, was briefly highlighted during Apple's WWDC presentation in June. Preliminary details have emerged from a member of the MacRumors community, who conducted tests using the Device Hub in Xcode 27 to explore this feature's functionality.

How the Feature Works

The process involves designating one iPhone as the primary device while the other functions as a companion. The primary iPhone will retain the main eSIM, while a secondary eSIM will be generated for the companion device. This setup enables users to seamlessly switch between the two iPhones while keeping the same phone number active.

Automatic Number Switching

According to the findings from the MacRumors forum, the transition of the phone number between the two devices will occur automatically based on which iPhone is unlocked and in use. Users will also receive notifications via the Dynamic Island feature whenever the number is switched.

Carrier Support Required

It's important to note that only the primary iPhone will have access to cellular settings, and the functionality will depend on support from mobile carriers. Reports suggest that T-Mobile in the United States and Deutsche Telekom in Germany might be among the first to offer compatibility with the iPhone Handoff feature.

As the release date approaches, more information about this feature is expected to be shared by Apple once iOS 27 becomes publicly available.
