Huawei Mate 90 Pro Offers Dual-Layer OLED and Kirin 9035 Chipset

Huawei is set to unveil its latest flagship smartphones, the Mate 90 and Mate 90 Pro, which come equipped with cutting-edge technology. While the Mate 90 RS holds the title of the top model, the Mate 90 Pro and its counterpart offer impressive features that are worth exploring.

Display and Design Innovations

The Huawei Mate 90 Pro showcases a 6.75-inch LTPO OLED display that boasts a remarkable 1280p+ resolution and a refresh rate ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz. Although this display size is slightly smaller compared to the Mate 90 RS and Pro Max, it still delivers an outstanding visual experience. The standout feature of the display is its dual-layer OLED technology, which allows for an astonishing peak brightness of 12,000 nits.

In terms of design, the Mate 90 Pro utilizes third-generation Kunlun glass on the front, encased in a sturdy metal frame, and features a nylon fiber back. This construction not only enhances the device's durability but also offers an IP68 rating, making it resistant to submersion up to 6 meters and able to withstand hot water jets thanks to the IP69K rating.

Performance and Battery Life

Under the hood, the Mate 90 Pro is powered by the Kirin 9035 chipset, which Huawei claims is 20% faster than the previous model's chip. Although specific hardware details are limited, the GPU supports hardware ray tracing and is capable of rendering an impressive 31 million rays per second.

Battery life has also seen a significant upgrade with a 6,600mAh capacity, up from the 5,750mAh seen in its predecessor. Huawei asserts that this battery can support up to 41 hours of video playback on a single charge. Fast charging capabilities are robust, featuring 100W wired and 50W wireless SuperCharge options, along with reverse charging functionality.

Camera Features and Capabilities

The camera system on the Mate 90 Pro remains largely similar to that of the Mate 80 Pro. It includes a 50MP main camera with an RYYB sensor and an optically stabilized lens that adjusts its aperture from f/1.4 to f/4.0. The ultra-wide camera is equipped with a 40MP RYYB sensor and an f/2.2 aperture, while a dedicated color sensor enhances photography capabilities.

One of the highlights is the telephoto module, which features a 50MP sensor with 4x optical zoom, OIS, and a bright f/2.1 aperture. This telephoto lens can also switch to macro mode, allowing users to capture close-up images from just 5cm away. The device maintains its unique triple punch-hole design for the 13MP selfie camera, complemented by a 3D depth-sensing module.

Software and Availability

Both the Mate 90 and Mate 90 Pro launch with Harmony OS 7, offering enhanced features for file sharing, including the ability to share large files remotely and utilize tap-to-share functionality when in close proximity. The phone intelligently recognizes whether it's held in the left or right hand, adjusting call answer and reject buttons accordingly.

The Mate 90 Pro is currently available for purchase in China, with the base model starting at CNY 7,000. In comparison, the Mate 90 is priced at CNY 6,000, positioning itself competitively in the market. While there is no confirmation about global availability yet, previous models have seen international releases following their initial launch in China.
