Nintendo to Officially Launch in Indonesia by December 2026

Nintendo has officially announced its entry into the Indonesian market, which is set to take place in December 2026. This announcement was made during the Nintendo Business Conference held in Jakarta on August 11, 2026, by Juro Takeuchi, the Executive Officer of Nintendo Co., Ltd. This move marks a significant milestone for the Indonesian video game industry, as gamers have long relied on retail imports or independent sources to access Nintendo consoles and games.

Partnership with Salim Group

To facilitate this expansion, Nintendo has partnered with the Salim Group, which will serve as the local distributor for its products in Indonesia. Axton Salim, the Executive Director of Salim Group, attended the conference, reinforcing the commitment of both companies to this collaboration. This partnership is expected to strengthen the marketing of Nintendo's hardware and software in the region.

Enhanced Consumer Experience

The establishment of an official distribution channel is anticipated to provide consumers with better after-sales services, structured warranty claims, and a more stable availability of Nintendo consoles in Indonesia. This is a crucial development for local gamers who have often faced challenges in accessing support and products.

Support from The Pokémon Company

This expansion is also backed by The Pokémon Company, represented by Susumu Fukunaga from the Asia Business Division. Several popular game titles are set to be introduced to the local market, including Pokémon Scarlet, Pokémon Violet, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Pokémon Pokopia, and the Pokémon: Let's Go series. These offerings aim to enhance the gaming experience for Indonesian players.

Exciting Launch Promotions

In celebration of its official launch, Nintendo will offer a special promotion, providing a free copy of Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! with the purchase of the Nintendo Switch 2, while supplies last. Additionally, a limited edition Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! themed console will be available at select retail stores, making it an enticing option for fans.

While the physical units are confirmed for release, Nintendo has yet to reveal details regarding digital services, such as a region-specific Nintendo eShop for Indonesia. Information about the official pricing in Rupiah, subscription rates for Nintendo Switch Online, and warranty schemes will be disclosed gradually as the launch date approaches in December 2026.

The official presence of Nintendo, supported by Salim Group and The Pokémon Company, signifies a new era for the gaming industry in Indonesia. The upcoming launch is poised to significantly alter the competitive landscape of the gaming console market in the country.
