Oppo's Find X10 Series Promises True-to-Life Imaging Experience

Oppo has officially unveiled the Find X10 Pro Max and Find X10 in China as of September 22, with plans for a global rollout later this month. To drum up excitement ahead of this launch, the company has shared a brief promotional video highlighting its new commitment to what it terms "true-to-life imaging."

Redefining Smartphone Photography

Over the years, smartphone photography has evolved dramatically. Images are often brighter, sharper, and more vibrant, but this can sometimes lead to a disconnect between the captured photo and real-life memories. Oppo aims to bridge this gap with the Find X10 series, promising a more authentic representation of reality.

Introducing the Lumo True Image Engine

Central to this initiative is Oppo's innovative Lumo True Image Engine, which consists of three key components: the Lumo Hyper Pixel Engine for enhanced detail, the Lumo True Color Engine for accurate color representation, and the Lumo Natural Tone Engine for realistic tones. The intention behind this technology is to ensure that photos reflect reality as it is, rather than how algorithms may distort it.

Addressing Industry Trends

Oppo's approach appears to be a critique of industry norms, where many competitors enhance images to look more striking, often resulting in oversaturation and unrealistic brightness. While some users prefer this style, Oppo is advocating for a more natural aesthetic, cautioning against issues like exaggerated HDR and excessive sharpening.

Advanced Photography Features

The Find X10 series defaults to capturing 26MP images, which is a step up from the typical 12MP standard. Users can also take advantage of Hasselblad Hi-Res Mode, which offers the ability to shoot 50MP photos across various focal lengths, along with full 200MP images from the native cameras. The True Color Camera is equipped with 24-channel multispectral sensing and a dynamic range of up to 15 EV, enhancing white balance accuracy for elements like skin tones and foliage.

Moreover, the camera’s auto mode leverages the global tone curve from Hasselblad’s Master Mode, providing a softer, more natural appearance with reduced local tone adjustments.

Video Capabilities and Collaborations

The advancements in imaging extend beyond still photography to video recording as well. The main camera of the Find X10 Pro Max utilizes Samsung's DeepPix technology, allowing for impressive dynamic range in single-frame captures at up to 4K 60fps. Additionally, the Pro Max can record in 4K at 60fps or 120fps and even 8K at 30fps across all three rear cameras. Features such as O-Log2, Dolby Vision support, and real-time LUT previews further enhance its video capabilities.

Oppo has also partnered with Blackmagic Design to fine-tune the Blackmagic Camera app for this series. Furthermore, a collaboration with Tilta has resulted in the Khronos Creator Kit for the Pro Max, which includes essential accessories like a case, lens adapters, a tripod, a handle, and an active cooling fan for optimal performance.

The global pricing and availability details for both the Find X10 and Find X10 Pro Max are expected to be revealed on October 21, with a subsequent launch in India the following day.
