Samsung's Upcoming Android XR Smart Glasses: Designs and Specs Revealed

Introduction to Samsung's Smart Glasses

Samsung has been making waves in the tech world with its upcoming AI smart glasses, first announced back in July. Although eager fans are still waiting for their release, recent rumors suggest a potential launch in November. Thanks to insights from SammyGuru, we can now explore the various designs created by Samsung's partners, Gentle Monster and Warby Parker.

Hardware Specifications of the Smart Glasses

The glasses are powered by Android XR and utilize the Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 chipset. Accompanying this robust processor is 2GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Users can enjoy a battery life of up to 9 hours, which can extend to an impressive 72 hours when using the included charging case.

Designs by Gentle Monster

Gentle Monster has crafted several stylish frames for the smart glasses, which include:

  • Squared frame options with clear, light blue, and gray lenses
  • Round frames available in clear, brown, and gray lenses
  • Another square-ish frame with gray and brown lenses
  • Cat-eye style featuring gray and brown lenses
  • Slim oval frames in black, light gray, and pale lilac
  • Oval frames available in black, burgundy, and cream

Each frame offers a unique look while ensuring functionality.

Smart Features and Capabilities

Equipped with a 12MP camera, the glasses can record video at 3K resolution and 30fps. They also feature four microphones and two open-ear speakers, allowing for seamless audio interaction. Users can harness the power of Gemini AI, which processes both visual and auditory commands. This enables features such as message reading, real-time translation, and capturing images of whiteboards that can be saved directly to the Notes app.

Water Resistance and Compatibility

The smart glasses come with an IPX4 rating, meaning they can withstand light rain. They are compatible with both Android and iPhone devices, though some features may be exclusive to Galaxy smartphones. Additionally, there may be regional variations, such as support for Naver Maps in South Korea. The glasses weigh approximately 41 grams, but this may vary slightly depending on the selected design.

Designs by Warby Parker

Warby Parker has also contributed to the design lineup with three distinct styles:

  • Alden, available with clear or dark lenses
  • Reid, offered in both clear and dark lenses
  • Wren, which comes solely in Jet Black

The Alden and Reid designs have additional color choices, including Pine (dark green) and Saddle (dark red), resulting in 10 total variations. However, it's important to note that while Gentle Monster designs will be offered in South Korea and the US, Warby Parker styles might initially only be available in the US.

Sales Channels for the Smart Glasses

Once launched, these innovative smart glasses will be available for purchase at Samsung Experience Stores, as well as through the websites and retail locations of Gentle Monster and Warby Parker.
