The Galaxy S26 Ultra has surprised many, including myself, with its impressive performance and features. Initially, I thought it would be just another minor upgrade, but using it has revealed several aspects that truly stand out. As the Galaxy S27 Ultra rumors start to circulate, here are three improvements I hope Samsung will implement in the next iteration.
Camera Performance Needs Attention
The S26 Ultra boasts a solid camera setup, but there are some areas that require enhancement, particularly in low-light situations. For instance, capturing images of my black cat can be quite a challenge. The phone struggles to focus adequately in less-than-ideal lighting, which can be frustrating for pet owners. While the primary, 5x telephoto, and ultrawide lenses perform well in good lighting, the 3x telephoto sensor falls short of expectations.
Redundancy of the 3x Telephoto Lens
Samsung’s 3x telephoto lens has not seen significant upgrades since the Galaxy S21 Ultra. With the introduction of a 5x lens in the S24 Ultra, the 3x lens has become somewhat redundant. The 200MP main sensor often delivers superior results at 3x zoom compared to the dedicated 3x lens, leading the phone to default to cropping the main sensor instead of using the 3x lens. This redundancy raises questions about the necessity of maintaining this component in future models.
Design Improvements and Qi2 Compatibility
While a unique design is vital, I believe that integrating Qi2 magnets into the Galaxy S27 Ultra would enhance user experience. Currently, the design of the camera setup interferes with the functionality of accessories. For example, my S26 Ultra with a Qi2 case has compatibility issues with certain battery banks, resulting in blurry images and improper charging. A redesign of the camera layout could alleviate these issues and provide a more visually appealing aesthetic.
Overall Performance Still Impresses
Despite these concerns, the S26 Ultra excels in many areas. The battery life is exceptional, easily lasting throughout the day, even under heavy use. The 60W charging also ensures that it charges quickly, which is an added bonus. The overall performance remains top-tier, and One UI continues to stand out as one of the best Android interfaces available.
In conclusion, if the Galaxy S27 Ultra can maintain the strengths of the S26 Ultra while addressing these camera and design concerns, it could set a new benchmark in smartphone innovation.
