Apple has officially launched its latest earbuds, the AirPods 5, boasting an upgraded Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) feature. This new generation promises not only better sound isolation but also enhanced audio quality along with several innovative features.
Advanced Acoustic Architecture
The AirPods 5 utilize a new multi-port acoustic architecture paired with next-generation Adaptive EQ. According to Apple, this combination delivers richer sound and greater detail, accommodating various ear shapes effectively.
Improved Active Noise Cancellation
One of the most exciting enhancements is the ANC capability. Apple claims that the AirPods 5 can reduce external noise by up to 50% more than the previous model, the AirPods 4. The Transparency mode has also been refined, allowing ambient sounds and conversations to come through more naturally.
Adaptive Audio and Conversation Awareness
Adaptive Audio is another feature included in the AirPods 5, automatically adjusting the balance between ANC and Transparency based on the surrounding environment. Additionally, the Conversation Awareness feature lowers the volume when the user begins to speak, making interactions more seamless.
New Features and Pricing
Apple has incorporated Siri AI and Live Translation capabilities into the AirPods 5. Users can engage with Siri hands-free and even use the earbuds for conversations in different languages, although the availability of these features may depend on the device, language, and region.
The AirPods 5 come in two configurations. The standard model includes a USB-C charging case and offers up to four hours of battery life with ANC activated. With an IP57 rating, they are also resistant to dust, sweat, and water.
The model equipped with a Wireless Charging Case offers additional features such as swipe gestures for volume control directly from the stem. This is a convenient addition, eliminating the need to reach for an iPhone to adjust sound levels. The battery life is extended to five hours with ANC on, totaling up to 22 hours with the charging case.
Interestingly, there is only a $20 price difference between the two models. Given the added benefits of wireless charging, direct volume control, and longer battery life, the wireless version presents a more attractive value proposition.
The starting price for the AirPods 5 is set at $129, approximately Rp2.3 million, while the model with the Wireless Charging Case is priced at $149 or around Rp2.6 million. Pre-orders are already open, with retail sales commencing on September 18, 2026, in select countries.
Apple has confirmed that the AirPods 5 will soon be available in Indonesia, although details regarding pricing and sales dates in the region have yet to be announced.
