After a long wait exceeding a decade, gamers are finally set to experience Grand Theft Auto VI, launching on November 19. This highly anticipated release has prompted an interesting initiative from a unit within the United States military, which is offering a special leave for its soldiers to engage with the game.
Special Leave for Game Enthusiasts
The 3rd Infantry Division based in Fort Stewart, Georgia, has introduced this incentive for members of the 9th Engineer Battalion. Soldiers can apply for a four-day leave specifically to play GTA 6, with the condition that they extend their service duration.
Details of the Incentive
A memo outlining this unique offer was shared on Instagram, detailing how soldiers can utilize this pass to formally request their leave. The memo stated, “Special Extension Incentive - Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) 4-Day Pass,” highlighting the timing of this initiative with the game’s launch.
According to the information in the memo, eligible soldiers who agree to extend their service from August 1 to November 14 will receive this special pass. While the exact dates for the leave must be coordinated with their superiors, it is expected to align with the official release window of GTA 6 from November 20 to 23, 2026.
Confirmation of the Initiative
Lieutenant Colonel Angel Tomko, a spokesperson for the 3rd Infantry Division, confirmed the existence of this incentive but noted that it is limited to just 130 qualifying soldiers within the battalion. So far, 20 members have already signed up for the leave.
Encouraging Retention and Morale
The idea for this leave incentive originated from a new career counselor in the battalion, who hopes this initiative will help meet retention targets for the fiscal year 2027. The memo circulating on social media indicates that this program aims to boost morale, enhance retention, and show appreciation for the dedication of soldiers.
Lieutenant Colonel Tomko remarked, “Incentives for extending service are a common practice in the US Army to recognize our soldiers.” He further added, “We aim to retain the best talent, and this is a testament to the creativity of career counselors in the organization, developing unique opportunities around the release of such a popular video game.”
