This functionality was first hinted at in an APK teardown of the Google Sounds app, revealing plans for separate vibration settings for ringtones and notifications. Now, these options are fully functional on the Pixel 11 series.
Setting Up Custom Vibrations
To customize the vibration associated with a ringtone, users can navigate to Settings > Sound & vibration > Ringtone > Vibration. Google provides a recommended vibration pattern based on the selected ringtone, simplifying the process. Users can choose from various patterns such as Classic Long Vibration, Heartbeat, and Gears, ensuring a tailored experience.
Notification Vibration Patterns
The Pixel 11 series also allows for unique vibration patterns for notifications. These can be found under Settings > Sound & vibration > Notification > Vibration. Users can select from options like Classic Short Vibration, Rattlesnake, and Pulse, offering a diverse range of tactile feedback.
Personalizing Contacts with Unique Vibrations
In addition to general vibration customizations, the Pixel 11 series allows for individual contact vibrations. By accessing the Contacts app and selecting a specific contact, users can assign a distinct vibration pattern by tapping Contact ringtone > Vibration. This feature means you can easily distinguish between callers based on the vibration pattern, enhancing personal connections.
At present, these features are exclusive to the Pixel 11 lineup, and it remains uncertain if they will roll out to older Pixel models in future updates. However, the potential for such an expansion exists, given the nature of software updates.
