Honor has officially unveiled the Magic 9 Pro Max in China, showcasing its flagship smartphone equipped with an impressive dual-camera setup featuring two 200 MP sensors. This device is designed to offer users a handheld cinema experience, thanks to its collaboration with renowned camera manufacturer ARRI.
Advanced Imaging Technology
The partnership with ARRI goes beyond just branding; it involves comprehensive sensor calibration based on ARRI’s Image Science, color management, and workflows for recording and post-production. The primary camera is equipped with a 200 MP sensor measuring 1/1.28 inches, featuring an f/1.57 aperture and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). Honor claims that its stabilization technology meets the CIPA 8.0 standards, providing gimbal-like stability of up to 3 degrees.
Camera Features and Capabilities
The secondary camera is a telephoto 200 MP sensor with a 1/1.4 inch size, an f/2.6 aperture, OIS, and the AiMAGE Clarity Engine for enhanced image clarity. Additionally, the device includes a 50 MP ultra-wide camera with an f/2.0 aperture. On the front, there’s a 55 MP selfie camera paired with a 3D depth-sensing camera for facial recognition.
Impressive Processing Power
To support its advanced imaging capabilities, the Magic 9 Pro Max is powered by the Yuguang H1 imaging chip built on a 6 nm process, delivering 18.8 TOPS/W of efficiency. This chip aids in noise reduction for RAW images without sacrificing crucial image data. The device also supports ARRI LogC3, 10-bit color, and ARRI Wide Gamut 3, which enhances dynamic range and signal-to-noise ratio, making it suitable for cinematic recording.
Display and Performance
The smartphone boasts a 6.8-inch LTPO OLED display with a resolution of 1,320 x 2,868 pixels, featuring an adaptive refresh rate ranging from 1 to 120 Hz and a pixel density of 464 ppi. The display supports DCI-P3 color gamut and can reach a peak brightness of up to 10,000 nits under certain conditions. Furthermore, it includes a protective layer of silicon nitride to reduce reflectivity and enhance durability.
Under the hood, the Magic 9 Pro Max is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor, coupled with up to 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of internal storage. The device is equipped with a substantial 8,800 mAh battery featuring fast charging capabilities of up to 100W wired and 80W wireless.
Running on MagicOS 11 based on Android 17, the smartphone includes various AI features such as YOYO Memory and YOYO Tasks, AI Call Assistant, and natural language search. Additionally, it offers seamless connectivity with Apple devices, enabling users to receive notifications from iPhones and sync with Apple Watches.
Durability and Availability
For security, the Magic 9 Pro Max includes 3D Face Recognition and a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. The device also holds IP68, IP69, and IP69K certifications for water and dust resistance. Currently, the Magic 9 Pro Max is available for pre-order in China, with plans for international expansion into markets including Europe, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. However, it remains uncertain if or when it will officially launch in Indonesia.
