In a surprising move, Google has increased the price of its mid-range Pixel 10a smartphone by $100, pushing the cost from $499 to $599. This adjustment comes just as anticipation for the upcoming Pixel 11a begins to build, making the current model a tougher sell.
Details of the Price Increase
The price hike is not exclusive to the United States; it appears to be a global trend. In Canada, for instance, the Pixel 10a was priced at $529 CAD shortly before the adjustment, which is a notable drop from its original launch price of $679 CAD. Currently, the device is now listed at $849 CAD on the Google Store.
International Price Changes
A similar pattern emerges in the UK, where the Pixel 10a had been available for £429, below its launch price of £499. As of now, the price has risen to £599, indicating that consumers in multiple regions are facing increased costs.
Effect on Retailers
The price adjustments are reflected not only on Google's official store but have also been mirrored by major retailers like Amazon and Best Buy in the US. This follows the recent introduction of the Pixel 11 series, which also saw a $100 increase in pricing across the board.
Reasons Behind the Increase
While Google has yet to officially comment on the reasons for the price hike, it is widely speculated that rising component costs, particularly related to memory, are influencing these decisions. As the Pixel 11a gears up for release in early 2027, the increased prices of the Pixel 10a may drive potential buyers to consider waiting for the newer model.
As the smartphone landscape continues to evolve, consumers now face a choice: purchase the now pricier Pixel 10a or hold out for the anticipated features of the Pixel 11a. With its upgraded specifications and features, the Pixel 11a could be well worth the wait.
