Samsung Health Enhances Sleep and Running Coaching Features

Samsung has recently rolled out an update to its popular Samsung Health app, enhancing both its Sleep Coaching and Running Coach features. These improvements aim to provide users with a more personalized experience while helping them achieve their fitness and wellness goals.

Streamlined Sleep Coaching

Previously, users needed to gather a full week's worth of sleep data over the course of a month to start using the Sleep Coaching feature. However, the latest update allows users to initiate coaching with just three days of sleep data collected in the last two weeks. This significant reduction in data requirements makes it easier for users to engage with the app and start improving their sleep habits.

Personalized Sleep Programs

Upon setting up Sleep Coaching, users are prompted to complete a survey that covers various aspects of their sleep habits, including regularity, interruptions, and consumption of alcohol and caffeine. Based on the survey responses and the collected sleep data, the app assigns a unique Sleep Animal to each user and creates a tailored coaching program lasting from four to eight weeks. This program adapts its recommendations weekly, responding to changes in the user's sleep patterns.

Innovative Sleep Balance Graph

The app now features a pentagon-shaped Sleep Balance graph, which visually combines five key aspects of sleep: total sleep time, regularity, nighttime awakenings, satisfaction with sleep, and Energy Score. This comprehensive view allows users to understand their sleep quality better and track improvements over time. Additionally, morning insight messages summarize the previous night’s sleep, contributing to weekly and overall reports.

Enhanced Running Coach Features

The Running Coach feature has also received a significant update, expanding its training levels from 10 to 12. This enhancement aims to better cater to the needs of intermediate and advanced runners. The running plans are still determined using a 12-minute running test or previous running data, but now users can export their workouts into templates ready for sharing on social media platforms.

Moreover, thanks to a collaboration with Strava, users can import their favorite running and cycling routes directly into the Samsung Health app, making it easier to track their workouts and explore new paths.

To access these new features, users will need Samsung Health version 6.24 or newer on a Galaxy phone running Android 11 or later, paired with a compatible Galaxy Watch4 series or newer, a Galaxy Fit3 or newer, or a Galaxy Ring. The Running Coach feature requires version 6.30.2 or newer on an Android device running version 10 or later, alongside a Galaxy Watch8 series or newer.

Samsung has indicated that these updates will be gradually rolled out through app updates this month, with availability and timing varying by market and device models.
