Apple has recently announced the repair costs for the iPhone Duo in the United States for users who do not have AppleCare+. This news comes with a warning for consumers, as they may need to set aside a significant budget if their iPhone Duo encounters issues.
High Repair Costs Without AppleCare+
Previously, Apple had shared the repair costs for the iPhone Duo with AppleCare+, but the prices for repairs without this coverage have just been made public. This timing seems strategic, possibly to prepare consumers ahead of the upcoming pre-orders for the iPhone Duo, set to begin shortly.
Estimated Costs for Common Repairs
For those who purchase the iPhone Duo without AppleCare+, they should be ready to spend up to USD 1,499 (approximately Rp 27 million) for various repairs, while fixing a cracked main display could cost around USD 999 (about Rp 18 million).
However, not all repairs are financially daunting. For example, replacing the main screen protector will cost USD 49 (around Rp 880,000), and a battery replacement is priced at USD 229 (approximately Rp 4 million).
Service Provider Pricing Variability
It’s important to note that these prices are estimates. Although Apple provides these as benchmarks, authorized service providers may set their own rates and offer individual estimates based on the specific situation.
The Benefits of AppleCare+
In comparison, repair costs for the iPhone Duo with AppleCare+ are significantly lower. The AppleCare+ service is available for USD 19.99 per month, USD 199.99 annually, or a one-time payment of USD 399. Given that the iPhone Duo is a first-generation product and comes with a hefty price tag, purchasing this additional protection is highly recommended to safeguard against potential future issues.
Pre-orders for the iPhone Duo will commence on October 16, with the device expected to be available from October 23. The starting price for the iPhone Duo is set at USD 2,000, equivalent to approximately Rp 36 million.
