This week, Oppo officially launched the Reno16 series, which consists of the standard Reno16 and Reno16 Pro models, as well as two other versions, Reno16 F and FS. Let's focus on these two main models and see what they offer along with their prices.
Price and Key Specifications
With a rather high starting price, the Reno16 is sold from €900 for the 8GB RAM and 512GB storage variant. However, there is an attractive offer of a €100 discount if you pre-order before the end of July. This phone is powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 processor and equipped with a 6,700mAh battery supporting 80W fast charging (55W when using a PPS adapter).
Both Reno16 models feature a 6.32-inch OLED display with HDR10+ support and a resolution of 1,216 x 2,640 pixels. The minor difference lies in the refresh rate, where one model runs at 120Hz while the other at 144Hz. Both can reach a peak brightness of up to 3,600 nits.
High-Quality Cameras
The Reno16 Pro stands out with a 200MP main camera using a 1/1.56-inch ISOCELL HP5 sensor. Additionally, it has a 50MP telephoto camera with 3.5x zoom and a 50MP ultra-wide camera. Uniquely, this phone also features a 50MP ultra-wide selfie camera with a 100-degree field of view.
Meanwhile, the standard Reno16 model comes with a 50MP main camera using a smaller Sony Lytia 600 sensor but still offers the same telephoto feature. The combination of a 50MP telephoto and 3.5x lens is very rare in mid-range phones.
Performance and Memory
Although both models fall into the mid-range category, the Reno16 Pro is powered by the Dimensity 8550 chipset, which provides better CPU and GPU performance. This model also comes with 12GB of RAM, which is four gigabytes more than the standard model.
However, the price for the Reno16 Pro is quite surprising, at €1,100 for the 12GB RAM and 512GB storage variant. Despite a €200 discount until the end of July, this price remains higher compared to similar phones from last year.
Comparison with Other Phones
If you are looking for alternatives, the Realme 16 Pro+ could be an interesting choice. Using the same Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 processor as the Reno16, this phone also has a 200MP main camera and a similar telephoto combination. However, its display is larger at 6.8 inches and it costs about half the price of the Reno16.
Additionally, models from other brands like the Xiaomi 17 and vivo X300 are also in the same price range. For example, the Xiaomi 17 offers the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset and equally attractive camera quality. All these models make the mid-range phone market increasingly competitive.
