Apple Unveils Latest iPad Mini with OLED Display and A20 Pro Chip

On October 26, 2026, Apple officially launched the latest version of the iPad Mini. This compact tablet has received significant upgrades, including an OLED display, the A20 Pro chip from the iPhone 18 Pro, and a slimmer body that is both dust and water-resistant.

Improved Display Features

The new iPad Mini boasts an 8.5-inch Super Retina XDR OLED screen, replacing the LCD panel found in its predecessor. Apple has equipped it with the advanced 2nm A20 Pro chip, Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, and enhanced AI capabilities through Apple Intelligence and Siri.

Dave Pakula, Apple's Vice President of Hardware Engineering, noted, "The iPad Mini is popular for its portability, performance, and stunning display, appealing to a wide range of users from creators and small business owners to doctors, field workers, and gamers."

Design and Dimensions

The design of the new iPad Mini has been revamped, now featuring a thickness of just 5.4 mm. Its compact size makes it convenient for travel, reading digital books, or working on the go. The most notable enhancement is the display; the new OLED panel is not only larger at 8.5 inches but also retains a similar overall device size due to a 24% reduction in bezels.

Enhanced Graphics and Performance

The transition to OLED technology brings deeper blacks and higher contrast, significantly improving the viewing experience for reading, watching videos, and gaming. Apple claims the display can reach a peak brightness of 1,200 nits, more than double that of the previous model, and supports a P3 color gamut with a contrast ratio of 2,000,000:1.

Moreover, the iPad Mini now carries an IP67 rating, providing dust protection and the ability to withstand immersion in water up to one meter for 30 minutes, although this does not mean it is safe for swimming or intentional submersion.

Performance Upgrades with the A20 Pro Chip

One of the major upgrades in the latest iPad Mini is the introduction of the A20 Pro chip, which features a 6-core CPU and a 7-core GPU with Neural Accelerators for each graphics core. Apple claims that the multithreaded CPU performance has improved by 60% compared to the previous generation, while graphics performance has surged by a remarkable 2.7 times, promising smoother gameplay and enhanced capabilities for photo editing and resource-intensive applications.

AI processing capabilities have also seen significant enhancements, with a reported increase of up to 4.5 times. The 512GB storage variant includes a Dual 16-core Neural Engine, enabling faster on-device AI processing.

Camera and Connectivity Features

The iPad Mini is equipped with a 12 MP front camera positioned for better landscape video calls, alongside a 12 MP rear camera that supports Smart HDR 4 and 4K video recording at 60 fps. The new Acoustic Display technology includes hidden woofers and tweeters, designed to deliver richer bass and clearer sound.

For connectivity, the iPad Mini features the N1 chip, supporting Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread technology, while cellular models come with the C2 modem, promising data speeds up to 50% faster than previous iterations.

Software Enhancements and Availability

The new iPad Mini runs on iPadOS 27, incorporating Apple Intelligence and an upgraded Siri AI, which adapts to user context based on messages, emails, and photos. Despite being in beta, this feature aims to provide a more personalized experience, although support for certain languages, including Indonesian, is not yet available.

Apple has introduced AI-based photo editing features, such as Clean Up to remove unwanted objects, Spatial Reframing for composition adjustments, and Extend for image expansion. The Image Playground app is now capable of producing photorealistic images.

With the iPadOS 27.2 update, users can now utilize extended display mode when connecting to external monitors. The iPad Mini is compatible with Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil USB-C, and Apple has also launched a new Smart Folio with TechWoven material, offering various viewing angles.

The iPad Mini comes in two color options: Midnight and Starlight, with pre-orders starting on October 26 and retail availability from November 6. While the iPad Mini will soon be available in Indonesia, Apple has yet to announce a specific release date for the region.

The iPad Mini is available in storage options of 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB, with initial pricing starting in the United States.
